The Mercury Backpack is a zippered top backpack with multiple pockets to keep your belongings organized. The pattern comes in two sizes - Mini and Large. The Mini size is perfect for everyday use and can carry all your essentials, while the Large size will make a great work bag, diaper bag or travel bag. The Large size Mercury Backpack can hold up to a 15.6" laptop, A4 or Letter-sized files, books, and more.

Exterior features:
  • A zipper pocket under the flap on the front top
  • Hidden zipper pocket on the front bottom
  • Two pockets on the sides
  • A back zipper pocket.
  • The Mini size has a small grab handle while the Large size has 2 grab handles
  • Adjustable side straps that make the wings go inward for additional security.
  • Optional trolley sleeve for the Large size.
  • The Mini size has a 1" wide adjustable shoulder strap, and the Large size has adjustable padded shoulder straps for extra comfort.

The pattern includes 33 pages of step-by-step instructions with 330 colour photographs to help you through each step. Also included in the PDF pattern are printable pattern pieces for your home printer.

The following files will all be included with your PDF pattern purchase:
  • SVG files (for Cricut Maker, Brother Scan N Cut & Silhouette)
  • A0 size (for printing at your local copy shop - if you do not wish to tape together the pattern pages included in the PDF pattern or to use with a home projector to cut out fabric).

Materials Required for Mini Size:

  • Exterior fabric - 1 ¼ yards (44” wide)
  • Lining fabric - 1 yard of woven fabric (44” wide) OR 1 yard of waterproof canvas (54” wide)
  • Medium weight fusible woven interfacing - 2 yards (45” wide). If using waterproof canvas for the lining, then you only need 1 yard of woven interfacing for the Exterior pieces.
  • Decovil Light - 3/4 yard (17” wide)
  • Ultra Firm Stabilizer - 8 ¾” x 4 ¼” piece
  • One 9” #5 zipper & one pull
  • One 8” #5 zipper & one pull
  • One 9” #5 zipper & one pull
  • One 8” #5 zipper & one pull
  • One 13” #5 zipper & one pull
  • 3/4” wide nylon webbing - 3/8 yard
  • Two 1” wide rectangle rings
  • Four 3/4" wide d-rings
  • Two 1” wide sliders
  • Coordinating thread
  • Erasable marking pen or chalk
  • Double-sided tape (Recommended)
  • Quick dry fabric glue or super glue (Optional)

  • Fusible OR Sew-In Foam - 1 yard (20” wide) 
  • Light weight fusible woven interfacing - 13” x 17” piece
  • 1” wide nylon webbing - 2 yards
  • One 11” #5 zipper & one pull
  • One 11” #5 zipper & one pull
  • One 11” #5 zipper & one pull
  • One 9 ½” #5 zipper & one pull
  • One 16” #5 zipper & one pull
  • Four 1" wide d-rings
  • Two 1” wide ladder lock buckles OR four 1” wide d-rings

You can sell bags made from this pattern, provided it's home based production.
This pattern is suitable for most domestic sewing machines.
